stumbled upon this website Cisthene which has more folkish, talisman type jeweller. It features hand-crafted jewels, bath and beauty products, as well as hand-tooled leather accessories.

Brooklyn based designer Erica Bradbury from Species by the Thousands created this connection ring (found here) from renewed and recycled materials which i think is pretty dope. I love me a good connector!!

"i got it when i was 14, turned 14, from my parents and i remember opening the box and i was completely shocked. i was like 'HOLY CRAP! is that real? is that a ruby a pearl and diamonds?"

"i was leaving for boarding school, so it's my 'grown up' gift"

and what about your necklace?

"my necklace, was... i got it made in America from thingsremembered. it was originally a bracelet, but when i got it i didn't like it as a bracelet so i made it into a necklace. the inscriptions read 'MLE', 'live, love, laugh', 'universal love' and 'health'. it brings me luck for my health, and is very personal. and the little evil eye is to ward off evil energy. and the little dolphin reminds me that im a pisces. it's also made of rose quartz."

Whenever i'm at her house i feel a sense of ease and calm every time. part of me thinks its partly to do with the crystals around her house which is why she also mentions the significance of rose quartz. Rose quartz aligns with the Heart Chakra, governing the emotions, especially love, and is known as the “love stone”. It can be used to nurture, attract love, promote self-acceptance or, on a more spiritual level, love of whatever you hold sacred.

whenever i have bought a crystal or stone, ive never done my research. it's been what i am drawn to. afterwards, when i find out the meaning of it it does directly reflect my energy and emotions for something that is going on in my life at the time. so always pick what your mind tells you to...

sometimes your mind wanders away to memorable cities, you get inspired by vintage prints, and voila, you find a piece that puts two together. i was looking at some retro posters of New York, and loved how simple the lines and colours make a bold impression. so i ended up finding a necklace that i felt reflected this. although the site is calling it 'aztec triad' (zzzz), i think it really should've been called 'quinary empires'.

it's nice to find gifts that are symbolic and have a certain meaning to them, which is today's theme.

i always believe in giving gifts that you want yourself, so one of my favourites is the bumblebee from Alex Monroe. for this occasion i like to call it the 'Queen Bee', also reminds us of the help that honey bees still need (i know bumblebees are not honey bees but work with me). it's quite pricey but you can always opt for the silver version.

well for some, mother's day is just around the corner. for others, you've got til the end of the month so may have some more time for ideas. personally i always did breakfast in bed with a homemade card, but for those that like to give gifts i'll be sharing a few favourites for the next couple of days.

The bracelets from Monica Vinader can be found in both silver and gold with adjustable handwoven cords (various colours found online), although with the designer's initial, the 'M' can always stand for 'mom'. but what's also great is that you can engrave most of her items through her site to make it more personal.

Here's the other friday fineday necklace I found in tokyo city in Bangkok. I love 'ugly pretty'things, and although i wasn't a big fan of the oversized skull (surprising i know), i loved the 'too muchness' of the charms.
